Welcome to Vol. 3 - Time Zones

Here are two links you can use for finding out information you'll need for answering the following set of questions. This whole unit is worth a total of 17 points. All assignments must have BOTH the QUESTIONS and the ANSWERS. You can either e-mail me your SPELL CHECKED answers, or turn them in to your class's in-box in my room. Make sure that you have read over your answers SEVERAL times. Misspelled words will NOT be counted.

1. (2 pts.) List the current time where you are now, and list the current time at some location that is of special interest to you. List both its location and time.
2. (1 pt.) What is meant by GMT?
3. (2 pts.) How many hours must we add or subtract from GMT to calculate our current time in Colorado? Be sure to indicate whether we add it or subtract it.
4. (4 pts.) Why are the meridians used as the lines to separate time zones?
5. (8 pts.) Why do you think the time zones seem to spread out wider on the map as you get closer to the North Pole?
